BSc Information Management for Business team visit Copenhagen Business School

On 12–13 May 2025, Maya Cara and Edyta Kostanek from UCL School of Management’s BSc Information Management for Business (IMB) programme visited Copenhagen Business School (CBS) as part of a benchmarking project funded by the SoM Best Practice in Business Education grant scheme. The visit formed part of a wider effort to explore international best practices in business and digital education, with the aim of further enhancing the IMB programme. CBS was selected due to its global standing, interdisciplinary focus, and strong emphasis on digitalisation and innovation within management education.

Over the course of two days, Maya and Edyta met with a range of CBS colleagues and students. They were welcomed by the Dean of Education, Anna Thomassen, and held in-depth conversations with academic and professional staff across several departments. They also spoke directly with students, gaining first-hand insights into the student experience and CBS’s educational culture. Discussions covered undergraduate and master’s-level programmes, including the BSc in Digital Management, BSc in Business Administration and Information Technology, MSc in Digital Business, MSc in Data Science, and MSc in Information Systems.

Maya and Edyta also visited BitLab, CBS’s student-led digital innovation lab, and explored executive and continuing education provision. These sessions offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on curriculum design, programme identity, digital transitions, and student engagement and belonging. The visit has already led to concrete developments, including additional summer school places for IMB students at CBS starting in 2026 and discussions around a potential term abroad exchange opportunity, currently under exploration.

Maya and Edyta noticed genuine interest in developing more systemic forms of collaboration, ranging from staff partnerships to student opportunities and co-developed initiatives. The exchange of ideas highlighted not only areas where IMB might evolve, but also ways in which UCL’s own practices could contribute to international conversations around business and digital education.

Insights from the visit will directly inform the next phase of curriculum development for the IMB programme. A report summarising key outcomes will be shared with colleagues across the School of Management, with follow-up presentations planned for autumn 2025. Importantly, this visit has inspired a longer-term initiative to build a global network of similar programmes. Maya and Edyta’s goal is to create a platform for sustained collaboration and mutual learning, helping raise standards across institutions and deepen the relevance and impact of business and digital technology education.

Maya and Edyta would like to sincerely thank the UCL School of Management for supporting this initiative, and would like to extend their thanks to Senior Global Engagement Officer Victoria Karaxha for helping to establish initial connections with the CBS team.

They are also grateful to Professors Helle Zinner Henriksen (Department of Digitalisation) and Dorte Salskov-Iversen (Department of Management, Society and Communication) for generously hosting the visit, opening doors to colleagues and departments, and sharing their time, insights, and ideas so openly.
