MSI startup celebrates first place at Europe’s biggest technology conference

Basestone, founded by MSc in Technology Entrepreneurship graduate Alex Siljanovski, has been crowned 2014’s Best Startup at Web Summit in Dublin.

Web Summit is Europe’s biggest technology conference with over 20,000 attendees from around the world and the PITCH competition saw 1500 startups apply for the chance to win €10,000, in addition to mentorship from sponsor Coca Cola.

Alex delivered a highly compelling pitch, showcasing the success of the company in driving technological innovation within the construction industry. Having answered tough questions from the panel of investors in the first two rounds, Basestone progressed to the final round of the competition  with three other startups, pitching their companies on the main stage in front of over 5,000 attendees. Basestone triumphed, winning first place in the Alpha category.

Alex and the team acknowledged the outstanding support they have received from UCL. “Knowledge from the MScTechnology Entrepreneurship programme and support from business advisors at UCL Advances, as well as academic staff has been paramount to our success” said Alex.
