In November 2021, Alan Parkinson, in collaboration with ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), was - for the second year running - invited as a Key Note Speaker at a gathering of the Shanghai National Accounting Institute (SNAI).

Based in Shanghai but with a national network and reputation SNAI seeks to; provide specialised education to senior financial and accounting professionals, cultivate high-end talent for the accounting industry and provide advanced continuing education for macroeconomic regulators, large-and-medium-sized SOEs, financial institutions and intermediaries.

The theme this year’s was “Boost Low-carbon Development with Management Accounting”. Speaking via video to 150 ‘in the room’ and 12,00 online participants, Alan gave his thoughts on low-carbon development within the green mission of management.

He drew upon international and national drivers including COP 26, and the China climate change ‘1 + N’ policy framework and the associated Dual Carbon Goals. He reflected on the role of senior management teams in organisations in fostering an environment to ‘make things happen’ and the necessity for management accounting to be proactive in providing planning and subsequent review information.

Following such an insightful keynote, the SNAI intend to use Alan’s insights and expertise as an introduction to a forthcoming publication.

The co-organisers with SNAI were: Inspur Group, Yonyou Technology, Yuanian Technology, Yuanguang Software, and supporting organisations ACCA, IMA, CGMA, ICAEW, CPA Australia.
