UCL School of Management recently welcomed delegates from across the accounting profession to One Canada Square for the UK Endorsement Board (UKEB) Annual Conference, bringing together academics, standard setters and industry professionals to discuss the future of financial reporting and accounting.

The conference opened with a welcome from UKEB Chair Paul Lee and Professor Susan Smith and highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and the profession in addressing emerging challenges in accounting.

Throughout the day, attendees explored a range of topics shaping the future of accounting standards, including projects relating to intangible assets, cash flows, provisions and the International Accounting Standards Board’s Fourth Agenda Consultation. 

Delegates also heard a keynote address from Steve Cooper, who reflected on his experience as a member of the International Accounting Standards Board and shared insights into the collaborative nature of international standard setting.

Dr Julia Morley presented research exploring the use of generative AI in accounting education, examining the opportunities and challenges AI presents for teaching and learning. Her presentation contributed to wider discussions throughout the day on the future impact of emerging technologies on the accounting profession.

The conference concluded with a horizon-scanning panel discussion and a networking reception, where delegates continued conversations while enjoying panoramic views across London from the School’s Level 50 campus.
