Global engagement mission across Shenzhen, Taipei and Hong Kong

Starting the year on a high, UCL School of Management took part in three global engagement initiatives across Shenzhen, Taipei and Hong Kong.

Commencing their journey in Shenzhen, the School was welcomed by alumni, faculty and friends across the region, who joined us to join us for an evening of celebration and networking. Professor Davide Ravasi, Director of UCL School of Management, shared insights into the School's development and expansion programme. We were then welcomed by alumni who shared reflections on their journeys since graduating and the lasting impact of their time at UCL. Tina Yang, MSc Management 2024 alum, now a trainee at the Bank of China, described her experience at the School as 'life changing.' Reflecting on her time in London, she shared that it fundamentally shaped how she sees the world and approaches opportunity, adding how proud she feels to remain part of both the School of Management and the wider UCL community.

Similarly in Taipei, Barbie Pan, MSc Management 2025 alum, expressed her excitement at seeing the School return to the city and welcomed the chance to connect not only with fellow alumni, but also with the wider local community. She shared her hope for many more opportunities to engage and reconnect in the future. Professor Alan Parkinson, Deputy Director of the School quoted the famous line from Hotel California, 'you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.' Reminding everyone that despite taking on new chapters in their life, the alumni will always be part of the UCL School of Management family.

Concluding the month in Hong Kong, the School participated in the inaugural China Business Forum, jointly organised by nine leading universities from the Asia-Pacific region, the US, and the UK. The forum brought together over 100 distinguished scholars, government officials, and business leaders from Hong Kong, Mainland China, South Korea, the US, and the UK to exchange insights on China’s evolving business landscape, emerging opportunities, and the future of global collaboration.

Professor Davide Ravasi joined a high-level fireside chat with fellow business school deans and academic leaders to discuss how closer collaboration with industry can help business schools better prepare students for a rapidly transforming world. Drawing on the School’s experience, Davide highlighted how industry engagement is embedded into programme design and development, ensuring that students benefit from both cutting-edge academic research and up-to-date, real-world industry insights.

As Davide noted: “Our responsibility as educators is to equip students with a deep understanding of the global business landscape and to support them in pursuing their goals at every stage of their lives. Staying closely connected to industry is central to that commitment.”
