About
The UCL Italian Sustainability SME Observatory is a research initiative that aims to measure the level of engagement and performance of Italian SMEs concerning their sustainable transformation. It has been established to disseminate research-based information on this topic and become a reference point in Italy.
Vision
The UCL Italian Sustainability SME Observatory aims to measure and support the sustainable transformation of Italian SMEs in the following ways:
- Annual national survey focusing on the key aspects of ESG and sustainable transformation
- Creation of an ESG dataset unique in Italy
- Provide independent expertise and evidence-driven analysis useful to support the work of SMEs and national policy-making
- Production of research-based papers to share research insights with the public

The Observatory has been developed in collaboration with members of the steering group from Tecno International and KPMG Italy.
Tecno International and KPMG Italy support the distribution of the survey and organisation of events to promote the Observatory on Italian national territory.
DELIVERABLES
The Observatory’s plan is to develop and distribute two research papers in the next 12 months. The research will be based on the outcome of the national survey, with regard to the sustainable transformation of Italian SMEs.
