The UCL School of Management offers the Global Business Mindset Primer (GBMP), a wholly online and asynchronous programme that will give students an international experience led by academic and industry experts from around the world.
The focus of the GBMP is to provide students with the fundamentals of a global business mindset through a set of thoughtfully designed modules on relevant topics. The primer aims to set a cornerstone for students to grow into global leaders who value equality, diversity, and inclusion and drive sustainable business success that benefits multiple stakeholders worldwide.
To achieve these objectives, the GBMP consists of modules that align with the three-dimensional structure of a global mindset, which is established in research and practice. Modules on diversity and ethics speak to the psychological capital dimension, modules on cross-cultural teams and communications connect to the social capital dimension, and modules on global etiquette, as well as six regional overviews, correspond to the intellectual dimension of a global mindset.
Each module is designed and delivered by top academics and industry and local experts to share distinctive and relevant knowledge and insights with the students. Knowledge and understanding of material are reinforced with regular tests, quizzes, and other interactive learning activities that are based on practical scenarios in which students must apply what they have learned, and students will be given feedback automatically.
Why study the Global Business Mindset Primer?
Global leaders should be able to interact with international colleagues with comfort and ease, and their relationships should be underpinned by knowledge, understanding, and respect.
Through the GBMP, students will gain subject-specific knowledge on diversity and ethics in global organisations, working and communicating in cross-cultural teams, global business etiquettes, and insights and knowledge on the main demographic, economic, political, and cultural characteristics of global regions. The students will also be provided with tools and frameworks that help them effectively address professional and business challenges in a constantly changing international context.
Importantly, students will be taught and challenged to think independently and critically about the roles of managers and organisations in driving sustainable and responsible business success that benefits not only one’s own organisation, but many others in the global business ecosystem.
