Course overview

This module provides students with the opportunity to develop critical and transferable skills in research presentation and writing.

The module is a combination of class discussion, observation, independent learning and critical writing. Students will attend ten sessions where they will be first introduced to current writing and publishing practices in the academic field of management, and expectations for published work in this field; next, they will reflect on how to properly position their work and contribution within the literature, and write an effective introduction.

They will also attend research seminars by leading academics in the broad field of management, critically reflect on both the content and delivery of the seminar presentations, and participate in debriefing sessions to collectively reflect on the effectiveness of the presentation when the memory is still fresh. In addition, students will be provided with individual resources (books, key papers, etc.) on critical writing and presentation skills.

The 4 research seminars students are expected to attend and observe will be selected by the instructor from the regular research seminars in the UCL School of Management.
